Sawbill Canoe Outfitters is located 24 miles north of Tofte, MN, on the south end of Sawbill Lake, at the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
Note that you cannot rely on GPS to get you here. Please follow the directions below, and note that, from Highway 61 along the North Shore, you should take the Sawbill Trail (County Rd 2) in Tofte to get here.
From Minneapolis/St. Paul
It takes approximately 5 hours to drive from the Twin Cities to Sawbill Canoe Outfitters.
Take I-35 North to Duluth, and follow signs for MN Highway 61. After leaving Duluth on Highway 61 you will drive approximately 80 miles along the North Shore of Lake Superior to the Town of Tofte. From Tofte you will turn left (north) on the Sawbill Trail (County Road 2). The Sawbill Trail is located across the highway from the Coho Cafe, a good place to eat, and just before the Tofte General Store. After turning on to the Sawbill Trail, you will drive 24 miles to the end of the Sawbill Trail, where you will find Sawbill Canoe Outfitters, and the Sawbill Lake Campground.
From Chicago
It takes approximately 10 hours to drive from Chicago to Sawbill Canoe Outfitters.
Take I-90 West to I-90 West/I 94 West for approximately 140 miles. Then merge onto US-53 N via Exit 70 toward Eau Claire/Chippewa Falls. After 155 miles merge onto I 35 North for 4 miles and look for signs for MN Highway 61.
